Draft biographies prepared by GEORGE TIBBITS ( 1933 2008) Faculty of Architecture and Building, University of Melbourne (date unknown, copy provided to Graeme Butler by G Tibbits). Graduating in architecture and town and regional planning, he worked in London and Melbourne before returning to Melbourne University where, for 28 years, he taught architectural history and established the urban studies program. George `...was chairman of the department of architecture and building from 1977 to 1980, and was associate dean (research) from 1986 to 1989. In 1991, he was appointed conservation adviser to the university, and, following his retirement in 1995, he was appointed as a senior associate of the Australian Centre.'
